Investigators believe a man who was shot in his home near Drouillard Road early Tuesday was the victim of a ‘targeted incident.’

Windsor police responded around 3:15 a.m. to a report of a shooting inside a house at 1207-1209 Henry Ford Centre Drive. Officers arrived to find an adult male — the resident of the address — suffering from suspected gunshot wounds.

The victim’s injuries were life-threatening. He was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition, as of Tuesday morning.

Police tape surrounds a home at 1207-1209 Henry Ford Centre Dr., near Drouillard Road, where a shooting incident during the early morning hours of Aug. 14, 2018, left a man with life-threatening injuries.

A investigation by the Major Crimes Branch was under way at press time. The residence and adjacent properties were still surrounded by police tape at 11 a.m.

Detectives canvassed the area, rousing residents at 4 a.m. to ask if they saw or heard anything.

Initial reports indicate a lone male suspect — dressed in black and wearing a ski mask — entered the victim’s home and wielded a handgun.

Investigators believe multiple shots were fired, and the shooter then fled on foot.

Anyone with more information about this incident is urged to call the Major Crimes Branch at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830.

Henry Ford Centre Drive runs parallel to Drouillard Road, immediately to the east. The address where the shooting occurred is just south of the Gino A. Marcus Community Centre.

On Tuesday morning, the police tape included a business property at 1214 Drouillard Rd. — the Banja Luka restaurant and lounge, which has overnight lodging rooms.

Chantal Hamelin, who lives across the street from the house where the shooting took place, said she must have been sleeping when it happened. She only woke up when investigators knocked at her door around 4:30 a.m. to ask if she saw or heard anything.

“I think anyone would be concerned if someone got shot across the street from their home. Especially when they got kids,” said Hamelin, 27, mother to two young children.

“That’s always been one of my fears about Windsor, because I grew up in the county.”

Richard Drouillard, who lives just up the street from the crime scene, said the victim works at Best Buy and keeps to himself.

“I didn’t hear nothing,” Drouillard said. “I would’ve called the police myself if I did.”

Despite the area’s reputation, Drouillard said he considers it a quiet neighbourhood — and he’s lived there for more than 35 years. “It’s the first time I’ve ever heard about somebody getting shot.”
