Assault charges laid after Windsor police seize bat, machete, hammer and pipes

Two men are facing assault charges in an incident that Windsor police say may have involved a bat, a machete, a sledge hammer and pipes.

The melee weapons were seized by police as evidence at a residence in the 300 block of Glengarry Avenue on Monday following investigation into what happened to an injured person.

The victim — who had been calling for help and medical attention — was found by patrol officers in the area of Glengarry Avenue and Riverside Drive East around 5:30 a.m.

Police said the victim’s injuries are serious, but not life-threatening.

Investigators learned that the victim had been attacked by multiple suspects wielding weapons inside the residence on Glengarry Avenue.

The address was secured as a crime scene and examined by forensics officers.

After obtaining judicial authorization, officers searched the residence and found the weapons.

Around noon Monday, police located and arrested two suspects in the area of the residence.

Brandon Belcher, 29, of Windsor, faces two counts of assault with a weapon and one count of aggravated assault.

Joshua Drouillard, 23, of Windsor, has been charged with one count each of assault with a weapon and aggravated assault.

The incident remains under investigation by the major crimes branch.
