Guelph police say they have charged a 49-year-old Windsor man with assaulting a peace officer after an alleged altercation related to intoxication.

The incident happened on Feb. 16. Guelph police were contacted by OPP to check on the well-being of a man.

The individual was eventually found in a vehicle on Wellington Street West, a major roadway in the south end of Guelph.

According to police, there were allegations that the man had been consuming alcohol.

An officer approached the vehicle.

Believing the man to be intoxicated, the officer asked him to step out of the vehicle.
