Windsor police have arrested and charged a 60-year-old man as the suspect in a purse snatching incident in which an elderly woman was knocked down as soon as she left a bank.
The crime happened in the middle of the day on Monday. Patrol officers responded around 12:10 p.m. to a bank branch at Grand Marais Road West and Dominion Boulevard.
Police learned that the senior-age victim had visited the bank to withdraw cash.
As she left the building and headed to her vehicle, a man knocked her to the ground and forced her purse out of her hands.
The robber fled on foot.
The victim was injured in the fall and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Through investigation, a suspect was identified.
On Tuesday around 1 p.m., members of the province’s Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) squad located the suspect at a motel in the 1400 block of Division Road.
Denver Varley, 60, of Windsor, faces one count of robbery.
