Essex County OPP are crediting DNA evidence and the work of forensics officers for an arrest in relation to a break-and-enter crime that occurred in Lakeshore months ago.

Police responded on Dec. 12 to an alarm at a business in the 7200 block of County Road 42. There, officers found that a building had been forcibly entered.

Missing from the property was an entire bank machine and four motor vehicles.

Two of the stolen vehicles were located nearby, and the other two were found in Windsor a few days later.

OPP forensics officers gathered evidence in the case, including materials for a DNA profile.

On Wednesday, OPP announced that a match had been found for the DNA evidence, and that a suspect had been identified and arrested.

Scott Kimball, 38, of Windsor, remained in custody at press time. His charges include breaking and entering, four counts of motor vehicle theft, and two counts of possession of stolen property (value under $5,000).

Essex County OPP said they collaborated with Windsor Police Service in this case.

Scott Kimball was previously arrested in Windsor in January in relation to break-and-enter crimes at the charitable organization Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex, 3064 Devon Dr.

The thefts from Habitat for Humanity took place over a three-week period last September. Missing items included multiple power tools and a cargo truck.

DNA evidence was also credited for the arrest in that incident. Windsor police described the case as a textbook example of science in the service of crimefighting.
