The province’s police watchdog has ended an investigation into facial injuries a 19-year-old man suffered while being arrested by Windsor police.
“The evidence shows the man did not sustain a serious injury,” said Tony Loparco, director of the Special Investigations Unit. “As such, I have terminated the investigation into this incident.”
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports of sexual abuse, death or serious injury involving police.
The agency was called after Windsor police stopped a vehicle early in the morning on Sept. 10 on Beals Street near Woodland Avenue. Officers believed “a person of interest” was inside the vehicle. The SIU didn’t say what incident the 19-year-old man was a person of interest in.
The man eventually got out of the vehicle. There was an “interaction” between an officer and the man, who suffered an injury to his face but refused medical treatment.
Police arrested the man and charged him with several offences.
