A man was arrested in Windsor on Tuesday after police found him carrying a folding knife classified as a prohibited weapon.

Tyler Sprague, 23, of Windsor, has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, breach of probation, and breach of a prohibition order.

Officers responded on Tuesday around 12:15 p.m. to a report of a male brandishing a knife while running around in the 900 block of Giles Boulevard West, off Crawford Avenue.

Multiple police units converged on the area. Witnesses told officers that a man had entered a nearby business and said they saw him carrying a knife in a dangerous manner.

When the man was located standing at the business entrance, officers noticed a knife hanging from his rear waistline.

He was arrested without trouble. No one was hurt.

The knife was seized, examined, and determined to be a prohibited weapon.

Under Canadian law, it’s illegal to possess a knife that has a blade that can open automatically by gravity, centrifugal force, or spring-activation.

Anyone with information about prohibited weapons is encouraged to call Windsor police at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830.
